What You Need to Know About Peugeot Keys

Peugeot has changed its image over the past few years through the introduction of a distinctive design for its cars. They are easy to drive with easy steering and there isn't any body leaning in higher speeds.

Our mobile auto locksmiths have the latest technology and machinery. They know-how to design a new car key for your Peugeot. This includes a chip embedded into your vehicle.

Mechanical

Peugeot began their manufacturing venture in the beginning of the 1800s when they began making kitchen equipment and hand tools. The company started out by making umbrella frames and wire wheels before moving on to bicycles. They were the first to introduce rubber tires in 1892.

By 1900 they had added a variety of cars to their line of manufacturing. Early models resembled carriages that were not steered with a tiller. During this period, Peugeot also branched out into motorcycles.

In modern Peugeots keys, they are more than mere mechanical pieces of metal. They also contain a transponder, which adds additional security to stop car thieves from hotwiring the vehicle. If the key is damaged or lost the car won't start and a warning message will display on the dashboard.

If you notice the yellow warning light which appears to be waves with the thermometer floating over it displayed on your dashboard it is most likely your Peugeot telling you that your engine is too hot. This may be due to excessive acceleration or a leak in the cooling system. If this happens you must stop and let the engine cool down. If the issue persists then you should speak to a Peugeot mechanic immediately.

Another issue that is common is a red warning sign which displays two cars and stars with a red outline under. This means that your Peugeot's forward collision detection system needs to be turned on.

Transponder

Before transponder keys became a standard feature in automobiles, it was fairly simple for thieves to steal your car. They could just push the ignition switch to the on position and then start it up. However, this is no longer possible as most modern cars have an anti-theft device that has a security chip in the key.

The microchip in the key is a miniature device that has a non-volatile (meaning that it will not erase when power is cut) memory. This chip contains a unique serial number, which is used as the "password" to start the engine. When you insert the ignition key, this chip transmits the password to the receiver inside your immobilizer. If the code is correct your car will start, and you can get going.

If you lose your transponder keys then you'll have to visit an experienced locksmith who can replace it. These locksmiths can use a special tool to detect the required frequency from the transponder chip on your vehicle and then create a brand new one for you. This is usually cheaper than going to your vehicle's dealership. Make sure that the locksmith you choose has this tool prior to hiring them. Otherwise, you may wind having to pay more than you need to have your keys duplicated. Ask the locksmith if they use a high-quality blank for your vehicle model.

Remote

Peugeot automobiles have an immobiliser system based on synchronisation with a small glass chip in the key, which is encased with an unique code. Whenever the key is inserted in the ignition the code is read by the immobiliser of the car to determine if the key is the correct one or not. If the chip isn't synchronised, the car will not start and the engine will stop. In this case, you'll need to visit your local Peugeot dealer to obtain a new key designed for your car.

If you're replacing a remote or a smart Peugeot key, you will have to find an experienced auto locksmith that has the technology, machinery and tools required to create the new key. A reputable locksmith will have a mobile unit that can be used to cut and program a Peugeot car key for you, saving you the expense of having to get the car key replaced at the dealership.

Fob

Most modern Peugeots are equipped with a key fob which will both unlock and open the car automatically.  peugeot 206 key G28  is also equipped with a small key blade that can be used in an emergency situation if the electronic component fails. The key blade is kept inside the key fob's slot that is accessible through a pull or push button. The fob will then send an ID code to the vehicle each time the key is put into the ignition barrel. If the code matches the engine will be started.

Some key fobs include a panic button that can be activated in an emergency. This feature is extremely helpful if you're driving in an area that is not well-lit and suspect you could be in danger of being assaulted or robbed. This feature will allow you to contact the police and inform your neighbors about the incident. This could discourage criminals from targeting your car.

A dealer will be capable of creating and programming new Peugeot keys for you, but it's unlikely they'll be able do it at the roadside, in your office car park, or when you're at home in the evening. Dealerships will be competent to provide these services if you are willing to bring your Peugeot to them to have it repaired. You will also have to wait while they work. Many prefer hiring a professional locksmith service instead.
